FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Ordering and Shipping
When will my order ship
I ship orders only on Mondays and Tuesdays to keep plants from sitting in transit over the weekend. Depending on the day your order is placed, shipping time may be anywhere from one to seven days.
Do you offer local pickup
Yes. I offer local pickup in St. Petersburg, Florida by appointment only. Please message me on Instagram (@granthuriums) or email me before placing your order so we can set a time.
Which carriers do you use
I primarily use UPS because it offers the safest and fastest service for live plants. USPS is available only for areas that cannot be serviced by UPS.
Do you offer free shipping
Yes. Orders over four hundred dollars qualify for free UPS 2nd Day Air. Orders over seven hundred fifty dollars qualify for free UPS Next Day Air.
Do you ship internationally
At this time I ship only to United States addresses. International buyers are welcome to use a U.S.-based broker. A trusted option is Sarah Spaulding (@Botanophile on Instagram).
Cold Weather and Packing
How do you protect plants in cold weather
Every order is wrapped in double foil foam core insulation and polyfil throughout the year. When temperatures are expected to fall below forty degrees Fahrenheit, I automatically include a heat pack at no additional cost.
Can I choose Ground shipping in the winter
No. Ground shipping is not safe for velvet-leaf anthuriums during cold months. At minimum please choose UPS 2nd Day Air. Next Day Air is even better. If unsafe shipping is selected I may hold or cancel the order to protect the plant.
What if my plant arrives with cosmetic cold damage
Minor cosmetic blemishes such as leaf edge spotting are normal when shipping in extreme temperatures and are not covered. However if the damage affects the stem or root system I will work with you individually to find a solution. I also like to check in with buyers after delivery to make sure plants are adjusting well.
Refunds and Live Arrival Guarantee
What is your refund policy
Since these are live plants, returns and refunds are handled case by case.
Do you offer a Live Arrival Guarantee
Yes. The guarantee applies to UPS 2nd Day Air and Overnight packages. To qualify, the package must be retrieved promptly, and you must contact me within one hour of opening with an unboxing video that shows the damage. Even beyond the official policy, I encourage you to reach out at any time if you notice delayed effects. I handle these generously and with understanding.
Care and Growing
How are your plants grown
All plants are grown semi-hydroponically in pon or tree fern. Seedlings begin in tree fern trays before transitioning to self-watering systems. Semi-hydroponics provides stable moisture and encourages strong roots, which means your plant should adapt well once you transfer it to your own preferred setup.
Do I need to change the substrate after receiving my plant
Yes. Shipping moss and temporary substrates are not ideal for long-term growth. Once your plant has adjusted from shipping stress, transfer it into your preferred medium. Many collectors keep them in pon, while others transition to aroid mixes. What matters most is consistency in moisture and humidity.
What lighting do you recommend for anthuriums
I grow with Barrina LED grow bars and measure with a simple light meter. For seedlings and shade-loving species such as dressleri and kunayalense, I recommend 150 to 200 foot candles. For species that can tolerate slightly higher light such as carlablackiae and antolakii, 200 to 300 foot candles work well. Anthurium papillilaminum can handle slightly higher levels up to 300 to 400 foot candles once mature, though they will often look more attractive in the lower range. Always acclimate slowly when changing light conditions.
What temperatures are best for velvet-leaf anthuriums
Most of my collection grows in tents that range from the high seventies to low eighties during the day and mid-sixties to low seventies at night. These species appreciate consistent humidity and temperatures, but they can be acclimated to ambient conditions with care. Dressleri and kunayalense especially reward cooler nights with darker emergent colors.
Do you offer care guides
Yes. I provide growing notes, substrate experiments, species profiles, and detailed setup guides on my website and through Instagram. These are the same methods I use in my own collection.
Holds and Special Requests
Can you hold my plant until I am ready
Yes. I can hold plants for up to two weeks before shipping. During winter months I am more flexible, or if the delay is my responsibility I will always accommodate. Longer holds are not available, so please place an order only when you are ready to receive the plant.
Do you sell propagations or mother plant cuttings
Yes, but not through the regular online listings. If you are interested in propagations, special crosses, or mother plant cuttings, contact me directly on Instagram or by email.
