Product Details
This cross is the result of pollinating Kuna PM5 first with a small amount of DF pollen, followed shortly after with BVEP RA1 pollen once the plant became more receptive. Because of this timing, I believe most, if not all, of these seedlings are from the Kuna PM5 x BVEP RA1 cross, though there is a possibility that a few may carry sp nov DF influence as well.
Either way, this mix should yield very interesting offspring. BVEP RA1 is known for its strength, form, and bold venation, while Kuna PM5 contributes unique structure and color. The potential combination, with or without DF influence, makes this a particularly exciting batch.
Offered here are healthy sprouts similar to those pictured.
Plant Care Tips
Your anthurium has been grown semi-hydroponically in pon or tree fern, so it may need some time to adjust after shipping. Follow these tips to help it thrive:
Unpacking
Open your package right away and check your plant. If it looks stressed, give it a day or two in moderate light and stable humidity before repotting.
Substrate
Do not leave plants in the shipping substrate long term. Transfer to your preferred medium once you are comfortable. Pon, tree fern, or a chunky aroid mix with good aeration all work well.
Light
Velvet-leaf anthuriums prefer low to moderate light. For best results:
- Seedlings: 150–200 foot candles
- Dressleri and kunayalense: 150–200 foot candles
- Carlablackiae and antolakii: 200–300 foot candles
- Papillilaminum: 200–300 foot candles (up to 400 when mature)
Temperature and Humidity
Aim for 70–85°F during the day and cooler nights if possible. High humidity (70 percent or higher) will give the best growth, but plants can adapt to lower humidity if acclimated slowly.
Watering and Feeding
Keep the medium evenly moist, never soggy. In semi-hydro, maintain a steady water reservoir. Fertilize regularly with a balanced nutrient such as MSU Orchid Fertilizer, supplemented with CalMag. Add beneficial microbes like HydroGuard for root health.
Acclimation
If growing outside a tent or greenhouse, slowly adjust your plant to lower humidity and different light levels. Quick changes may cause leaf stress.
How Our Plants Are Grown
All plants are grown semi-hydroponically in pon or tree fern. Seedlings begin in tree fern trays before transitioning to self-watering systems. Semi-hydroponics provides stable moisture and encourages strong roots, which means your plant should adapt well once you transfer it to your own preferred setup.
