Anthurium Red Queen is a very popular crystalline hybrid created by Chinese mega-nursery Equator. The plant has been wildly popular within China for some time now but is becoming a somewhat global sensation with many of them now making it stateside, although most of these are somewhat lower grade plants.
The origin of Red Queen seems to be a carefully guarded secret, but it seems likely it is derived from interbreeding of red crystal lines and possibly Indonesian origin hybrids such as red tiger, although this is just my suspicion. The majority of the plants in circulation currently are from the Red Queen F2 batch (with the first official F3's also just being recently introduced and being sold at auction for exorbitant prices). The plants have a wide range of traits from something resembling fairly run of the mill Indonesian red crystal hybrids to plants possessing intricate silver vein patterns with intense red and purple emergent veins, with the latter commonly fetching 5 figure prices at auction.
